Vice Squad

Columnist extraordinaire Robert Novak is reporting that Sen. McCain will be announcing his vice presidential choice this week.  The CW was that McCain would wait until after Obama makes his selection, expected to be right before the Democrat convention this summer.  Novak has great sources, especially in Republican politics, and the responses are unified that this was timed to knock Obama’s foreign trip down a notch, but divided on whether it is actually true or just a fake leak.  Rumors rocking Romney recently.

Son Of A Rich

Do the rich pay taxes?  Did President Bush’s tax cuts lead to the rich paying less of the tax burden, but taking more of the income pie?  Is Sen. Obama experienced enough to be president?  The answer to all questions is a resounding, “NO!”  Check out this WSJ editorial for the whole story.

Op-ed Copout

Drudge headlined the breaking story this afternoon that the NYT editorial page editor David Shipley turned down an op-ed submitted by Sen. McCain.  The article was written in response to an op-ed published in the NYT by Sen. Obama on his shifting Iraq position.  Shipley, a former Clinton White House employee, claimed the article wasn’t what they were looking for.  This is understandable.  The McCain op-ed merely expressed the views of a man who may be the next president on one of the most important issues facing the country.  Besides, publishing the op-ed would have squeezed the space available for the latest column from Bob Herbert or Maureen Dowd.

Time Off

Reading the latest issue of Time magazine, it became obvious how Sen. McCain can gain not just more media coverage, but positive press attention.  As this article illustrates, he and his staff only have to return negative (and often off the record) criticism of President Bush.

Miley High Club

More scandal has erupted around tween pop star Miley Cyrus, the offspring of alleged singer Billy Ray, known for his gay anthem hit, “Achy Breaky Heart.”  Previously, Ms. Cyrus, hugely popular among those too young to understand music or appreciate talent, had some inappropriate pictures released and posed semi-nude for Vanity Fair.  Now there are apparently more pictures floating around the Internet that are not exactly what her bosses at Disney and the parents of her fans will appreciate.  I believe this is all part of a plan for Ms. Cyrus to move beyond her young audience to a more “mature” audience as her age advances, all though she is all of 15 years old.  Unfortunately, 15 is the new 19 when it comes to sexuality, and our culture mistakenly defines being an adult as acting like a slut, when everyone knows being a adult is only reached by smoking, binge drinking, and making fart jokes.  Hopefully Miley will learn this before it’s too late.
